About Atomic PlanetAtomic Planet Entertainment Limited (APE) are a game development studio based in the North East of England, which was formed in July 2000 by industry veterans Darren and Jason Falcus. We develop video games and software for all of the current major consoles and platforms, including Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo GameBoy Advance, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii, PC, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3 and Sony PSP. Our goal at APE is to remain one of the most successful and highly respected video game developers in the world. This vision is already taking shape in our recent games and upcoming releases, backed by a management team that has over 75 years of industry experience and which has worked on over 160 game sku's in a period of over 20 years.
People We currently employ over 50 members of staff across a number of disciplines.
History After merging with Iguana Entertainment in 1993, the company worked on the hugely successful NBA Jam games. Following this Acclaim bought the Iguana studios and opened up Acclaim Studios Teesside. The studio went on to expand to over 70 staff and was responsible for the development of the Shadowman series of games. Having parted company with Acclaim in 2000, Darren and Jason founded Atomic Planet Entertainment. Since then the studio has grown steadily, completing many products over the past 7 years, including contracts for Codemasters, Capcom, Sony, Bethesda and Cinemaware.
Technology This technology not only allows successful development of quality games on time and on budget, it allows APE to rapidly prototype new ideas which serves two purposes: to allow a publisher to get a clearer idea of the game and its mechanics, and to allow the studio more time to spend on working at perfecting and maximising the gameplay experience. APETEC currently boasts rendering power of over 12 million polys per second, has a flexible animation system and dynamic lighting effects. |
